Monday Mycotoxin & Crop Report for September 8, 2025
September 08, 2025

Welcome to this week’s addition of the Monday Mycotoxin & Crop Report! This report serves as a bi-weekly update for crop conditions, weather outlook, and mycotoxin levels. Crop and weather data are sourced from the USDA.
- Weather conditions are variable throughout the country with mixtures of heat, cool temperatures, drought, and rain.
- Corn development continues to be on track while winter wheat harvest is complete.
- DON reports continue in winter wheat – initial reports are also found in spring wheat.
Weather Summary
Weather conditions varied across the country. Areas in the Great Lakes region experienced cooler temperatures than normal, while areas in the Pacific Northwest were warmer than average. Cooler, drier conditions prevailed across the lower Midwest, mid-Atlantic, and Northeast, exacerbating dryness in topsoil across parts of the upper/middle Mississippi Valley, Ohio Valley, Atlantic Coast, and parts of the northern/eastern Great Plains.
Crop Progress & Condition Overview
90% of the corn has reached the dough stage, with the majority of corn moving to the dented stage. 15% of the corn has reached maturity. Overall corn progression continues to be nearly even with the five-year average. The majority of corn continues to be in good to excellent condition. The following states have pockets of corn that are behind the national average of very poor and poor condition: Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, North Dakota, Ohio, and Tennessee.
Winter wheat harvest has been completed.
DON has been reported in:
- Illinois – 1-3 ppm
- Pennsylvania – 1-3 ppm
- Maryland – 1-3 ppm
- Delaware – 1-3 ppm
- Virginia – 1-3 ppm
- Tennessee – 1-3 ppm
- Alabama – 1-3 ppm
Spring wheat continues to advance as 72% of the crop has been harvested – South Dakota and Washington having harvested the majority of their crop. Quality is variable depending on the region, as some areas suffered from considerable drought. Initial reports of DON, around 1-3 ppm, have been reported in North Dakota.
Barley continues to progress, with 72% of harvest being completed thus far. As barley harvest moves towards a close, supply has been constrained by record-low acreage being planted – slightly offset by higher yields.
Ochratoxin has been reported in:
Manitoba, Canada: 10 ppb +
As harvest continues to progress, we will monitor results and conditions for potential mycotoxin contamination.
