Monday Mycotoxin & Crop Report for September 22, 2025

September 22, 2025

Welcome to this week’s addition of the Monday Mycotoxin & Crop Report! This report serves as a bi-weekly update for crop conditions, weather outlook, and mycotoxin levels. Crop and weather data are sourced from the USDA.

  1. Corn harvest begins throughout the Southern part of the United States.
  2. Planting begins for winter wheat.
  3. Barley and spring wheat harvest wrap up for the year.

Weather Summary

Throughout the South and East Coast, drier, warmer temperatures were observed accompanied by reductions in topsoil moisture. Dry, warm conditions can lead to Aflatoxin contamination – we will continue to monitor as corn harvest continues. Other areas of the country, the Great Plains and Pacific Northwest, experienced increased rainfall. Overall, weather conditions varied across the country.

Crop Progress & Condition Overview

41% of corn has reached maturity, with 7% having been harvested. Harvest is primarily progressing in Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Kentucky. Progression continues to be nearly even with the five-year average. Corn continues to be in good to excellent condition overall. The following states have pockets of corn that are behind the national average of very poor and poor condition: Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.

Winter wheat harvest has been completed, with planting for next year underway. No new reports of DON have come in – as a review, this year DON has been reported in:

  • Illinois – 1-3 ppm
  • Pennsylvania – 1-3 ppm
  • Maryland – 1-3 ppm
  • Delaware – 1-3 ppm
  • Virginia – 1-3 ppm
  • Tennessee – 1-3 ppm
  • Alabama – 1-3 ppm

Spring wheat harvest is almost complete, running slightly above the five-year average. DON has been reported in:

  • North Dakota – 1-3 ppm

95% of barley has been harvested as the season comes to an end.
Ochratoxin has been reported in:

  • Manitoba, Canada: 10 ppb +

As harvest continues to progress, we will monitor results and conditions for potential mycotoxin contamination.
