This dilution gene causes black coat color to be gray and red coat color to be yellow in the Hereford, Simmental and Gelbvieh breed. In Charolais, the carriers of the silver variant will have a black coat that appears grey, or a red coat that appears light red. Cattle that have two copies of the silver variant will appear white
